Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II has spoken about his reservation with the illegal small scale mining (galamsey) and its devastation on the environment.

Speaking yesterday at the Regional Consultative Dialogue on Small Scale Mining at KNUST, Kumasi, the Asantehene said the government had sent an entourage to brief him on the things he needs to say in his speech.

According to him, the Regional Minister and Abu Jinapor begged him to be very considerate in his speech in order not for him to say anything that will be tough for the government to take as far as galamsey is concerned.

However, Asantehene deviated and insisted that he believed the people in the galamsey menace knew themselves and how their activities are destroying the environment.

In fact, he stated that 30 per cent of the people sitting in the hall know those who are neck-deep in galamsey which is the more reason government together with the chiefs need to take the fight seriously.
